Le Portail Mobile de la Goutte d’Or is back ! / Golden Gateway 3.0

13 ans après sa création, le fameux portail des jardins mobiles de la goutte D’ Or est enfin remis sur pied, après moultes péripéties. 4 mètres de haut sur 14 mètres linéaires de beauté colorée.
13 years after its creation, the famous Golden GateWay is back on track ! We did it !
14 meters long, 4 meters top height of beauty.

Du côté de l’ atelier, il a fallu plusieurs semaines de dur labeur, étalées de 2021 à 2023, pour : rénover, réparer, consolider, adapter, augmenter, réinventer, repeindre, réinstaller, repeindre encore. Il a fallu aussi rattacher la bonne centaine de panneaux de bois eux aussi entièrement renouvelés, et peints en été 2022 par de nombreux enfants et habitants du quartier La Goutte d’ Or, lors de la Rue aux Enfants organisée par l’ association Home Sweet Mômes.
Conçue et créée en 2010 pour accompagner les déplacements des projets de jardins partagés d ‘une friche à une autre dans la zone Goutte D’ Or ( Paris 18eme), cette œuvre collective est un témoignage historique des transformations du quartier, et de la créativité générée par les jardins partagés qui s’ y trouvent. Après avoir orné le 19 rue Richomme, puis le 16 rue Cavé ( voir documentaire ici de Madeleine Sallustio), puis avoir végété quelques temps, le portail épouse maintenant la façade du jardin Aziza.
Situé au 23 rue Richomme, cet écrin vert est géré par l’ association La Goutte Verte, implantée de longue date dans le quartier. Ce sont eux qui ont géré toutes les sessions de décoration des panneaux de bois avec les habitants, pendant que je m’ occupais de redonner vie à toute la structure métal à l’ atelier. L’ association vient de prolonger pour 6 ans son occupation du jardin Aziza. Sous son plus beau jour, et solidement plantée, mon œuvre a donc enfin repris racine à une adresse durable, c’ est une grande fierté pour moi que de contribuer à magnifier, autant que protéger, ce jardin partagé hors du commun. Le nom Aziza rend hommage à une habitante très investie depuis des années, très aimée dans le quartier.

It took lot of patience, and several weeks of hard work from 2021 to 2023, to set up this huge gate, from its former shape to what it is today : renovated, consolidated, adapted, transformed, augmented, repainted, reinstalled, repainted again. It took also a lot of collective energy, with local collectives called La Goutte Verte, and Home sweet Mômes who organised all the redecoration of the wood panels by the inhabitants. More than a hundred of panels were then attached to the metallic structure.
This project first took place in the context of rapid and quite brutal real estate transformations of the district called La Goutte D Or, known for its old dilapidated buildings and strong demand of social housings. Any empty plot, waiting for the new construction site to take place, would be an opportunity for a temporary community garden to emulate. Each grassroot garden that would emerge there, would be supported by the city, and helped when it comes to move away to another site. Although we all know plants (and humans) do not like to be moved so much, this idea had quite a success, and La Goutte d’ Or is now also known as a district with numerous little, each unique, colourfull, precious, altho fragile community gardens. Since 2010 until now, my Golden Gateway has gone along pretty well with the history of these gardens, moving away with them and accompagnying them in different places of the district, to keep the limit and give a sublime signal to the people passing by. Each adress has specific metrics, so each moving means thinking and buidling new shapes, new arrangements of the frames. This time is for good, I am very proud and you can see the result at the 23 rue Richomme, Paris 18, at the Jardin Aziza, managed by the association La Goutte Verte.
